When we think about health system use of electronic data, we think about unleashing the potential of health data’s value. So much more can be done to increase the quality, safety and efficiency of our Canadian health care system—and data is at the heart of these improvements.

Throughout this year’s eHealth Conference, we will also showcase how you can use the power of data to answer some of your most pressing questions. Here are just a few examples:

  • How can data improve patient safety, quality and timelier access to care?
  • How can data drive your planning and resource allocation to deliver care more effectively and efficiently?
  • How can data increase the quality of our care and the sustainability of our health care system?

At the foundation of good data are standards that make it easier to build and implement the solutions needed to ensure that health care providers can collect, communicate and share the right health information in a consistent, safe, comparable and reliable manner. This work is not easy, but it’s certainly worth it.

We’ll bring these lofty goals to life by sharing some of the success stories we’ve heard, such as

To kick off eHealth 2014, we’ve assembled a distinguished panel of speakers from across the country and around the globe to talk openly and candidly about the way digital health information is being used in different parts of the world. Our pre-conference symposium on Health System Use will be held on Sunday, June 1.

You might recognize some of the speakers:

  • Dr. Geraint Lewis (NHS England)
  • Dr. Louise Schaper (Health Informatics Society of Australia)
  • Dr. Douglas Cochrane (BC Patient Safety & Quality Council)
  • Dr. Bill Clifford (Northern Health)
  • Dr. John Hirdes (interRAI Network of Canada; University of Waterloo)
  • Mike Barron (Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information)

We promise it will be a lively, informative and valuable learning experience.

I look forward to our discussions and to hearing your stories about how you are using digital data to improve patient care and our health system.

See you in Vancouver!
